One of the positive surprises thousands of visitors experience in the Croatian capital is how green the city is. While the Zagreb center can be explored on foot, renting an e-bike will unlock the city’s underrated green zones.
To start your cycling adventure in the capital city, choose e-bike rental and visit these green areas, among other numerous attractions in the town.
Diverse green city’s heart
Maksimir is one of the region’s first public parks, which originated in the late 18th century. A green oasis in the bustling eastern part of the town spans 316 hectares, containing century-old oak forests and a rare red-headed woodpecker bird sanctuary. Cyclists can find meadows, small lakes and creeks, and unique architecture. Hop on an e-bike and visit the Bellevue pavilion, Vidikovac (lookout), and the bridge between First and Second Lake to see how the park developed over the years. You can also relax in green settings or take a coffee break in cafes.
Go around the “Zagreb Sea”
Jarun Lake is the second-largest green zone in Zagreb. It’s home to sports enthusiasts and recreational athletes, with two lakes, bike and hike trails, beach volleyball, and other sporting venues. Take a 6-kilometer route around both lakes or explore two islands. Take a coffee break in one of the numerous cafes and soak up the positive vibes in this car-free zone. Jarun also hosts major sporting events and music festivals like InMusic.
Bundek Lake and Park
Going south of river Sava into New Zagreb, just across the Freedom Bridge, you can find Bundek Park, a green zone with two small lakes, a 1.6 km bike trail and well-maintained pebble beach, hiking trails, and children’s playgrounds. Bundek and other Zagreb parks are a few minutes away from the Center with the convenience of e-bike.
Explore Medvednica (Sljeme)
Choosing e-bike rental will allow you to explore the nature park Medvednica and its highest peak, Sljeme, the colloquial name for the entire mountain. The hill offers eight circular bike trails and one transversal. Some highlights include the Sljeme, which has a TV tower overlooking the city and the entire region. Medvedgrad Fortress is another notable landmark. Medieval Castle has historical value and an excellent viewpoint, and you can explore the nearby Veternica Cave.
The top green spot in the Center
Zrinjevac Park is not as big as other green zones but is the most visited. If you’re set to explore the city Center, it is probably the best spot to take a break under the shadow of sycamore, maple, and linden trees. This vibrant location is highlighted by a music pavilion, old meteorological stations, and water fountains. Opt for e-bike rental and explore the Croatian Capital’s green zones and other attractions.
